FMHOY – Fuerteventura.Around 45 people participated in the second Stars’ Baptism Hike from the programme ‘Fuerteventura al Golpito’, organised jointly by the Astronomy Association from Fuerteventura (AAF) and Fuerteventura’s Cabildo, through its Youth Council.
Participants started from the AAF’s Observatory in Tefía until they reached the dam of Los Molinos. During the hike, there was an introductory chat on concepts concerning astronomy, the history of Tefía’s Refuge and the dam of Los Molinos.
Hikers were able to contemplate with the naked eye the Summer Triangle, Mars and Saturn. Both planets were located close to the Scorpius constellation, an event that had not been seen for 32 years.
This was the second nocturnal hike organised by the Cabildo together with the Astronomy Association of Fuerteventura. The previous one took place on 21st May and gathered around 50 people.
After the great success of this initiative, the Youth Council is keen to organise new nocturnal hikes
