The thousand and one reasons for Ridley Scott to film in Fuerteventura …

Publicado el 3 April, 2014. Por

Ridley Scott chose Fuerteventura as a natural setting for filming  EXODUS , a long-standing project for the English director, which tells the story of the exodus of the Hebrews led by Moses through the Egyptian desert and the Red Sea , fleeing Pharaoh Ramses 3,500 years ago .

This blockbuster, with a budget of $ 150 million , starring Christian Bale, Ben Kingsley , Aaron Paul , Sigourney Weaver and Spanish actress Maria Valverde, has been filming since last November to January this year , during which time it has needed daily transport and accommodation for 1300 people, including crew and extras , over a thousand animals such as horses, camels, cattle and goats have collaborated in the development of the shoot ; hundreds of trucks including several military vehicles have facilitated the transfer of all equipment between different locations and sets. Despite the complexity of this shoot it was made on schedule to the satisfaction of producers 20th Century Fox who were in charge of coordinating this great production, the largest done in the Canary Islands.

Ridley Scott , director of cult films like “Blade Runner,”  ” Alien  ” and “Thelma and Louise ” or “Gladiator ” chose for his latest project the island of Fuerteventura, after searching throughout the world for locations that would serve as a backdrop for this ancient odyssey.

Why you chose Fuerteventura ?

Here are some reasons for the decision :

For although in the film the characters seem to suffer the rigors of a hot summer, in Fuerteventura it is winter ; a bright winter with temperatures of 23 º C

For although the film takes place in Egypt, Fuerteventura is Europe and  is only three hours from the main European cities.

Although the film is set three thousand five hundred years ago , Fuerteventura retains many unspoilt areas of incredible beauty in the XXI century.

Although the film chronicles the journey through the desert of Sinai, Fuerteventura  provides accommodation and first class amenities and all very close to each other .

Although in the film they cross the Red Sea, Fuerteventura is surrounded by a rough sea on one side and calm waters on the other.

Athough the film chronicles a journey of thousands of miles,  Fuerteventura is less than sixty miles from north to south .

Athough 400,000  Hebrews appear in the film,  600 Majoreros were enough to tell the story.

And finally because Fuerteventura is the only place Ridley Scott could recreate this tale in winter, with all the amenities that the island offers and so close to freezing Europe.
